Smoke, Pursuit, and Inner Victory
Joshua 8:20-22 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Joshua 8 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Ai's men look back and see the smoke rising, unable to flee. Joshua and Israel then press the attack, and those left in the city are overwhelmed.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here the smoke is not ruin but a figure of consciousness. The moment a problem is seen as real only in the imaginal world, the smoke rises to isolate the old belief, and reversal becomes possible. Joshua and Israel see that the ambush has taken the city; their belief is reorganized and inner reversal births action. You and I must understand that God is the I AM within; the outside scene is simply a mirror of inner readiness. The smoke ascending marks the collapse of flight and the decisive turn of the mind toward the solution you have already assumed. The enemy's attempt to escape dissolves as you hold the inner vision of deliverance; the surrounding forces converge to seal your success. Therefore, cultivate the feeling that the victory is complete, now, in the awareness you inhabit. Practice this: assume you are already delivered; dwell in the sense of triumph; the outer event will reproduce your inner state, just as the city falls when the smoke signs completion.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine the smoke rising over the city as a symbol of your old limitation dissolving. Affirm I am delivered now, and feel the relief as if the victory is already done.
