Inner Cleansing and The Accursed Thing
Joshua 7:1-2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Joshua 7 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Israel’s defeat at Ai is caused by Achan’s trespass with the accursed thing, provoking God’s anger; Joshua then sends scouts to view Ai.
Neville's Inner Vision
The 'accursed thing' is not a bag or a stolen coin, but a belief-state in your own consciousness that there is a rival power within you. Achan’s act exposes a split between the universal I AM and a private allegiance to fear, lack, or self-doubt. When Israel is defeated, it is not punishment meted out from somewhere outside; it is the natural consequence of a mind that has entertained a contradiction to its foundational covenant. The anger of the LORD becomes the body’s alarm clock, waking Joshua to the truth that every outward event mirrors an inner movement. The act of sending scouts to Ai is a call to examine your inner country, to view the terrain of your thoughts and loyalties. Until you acknowledge and revise the hidden belief that you are diminished or separate from the whole, the army you claim to be—the actualized self—will falter. Yet the remedy is simple: reaffirm your oneness with the I AM, abolish the 'accursed' thought by listing it as not you, and stand in the certainty that the divine, within you, governs every result.
Practice This Now
Tonight, revise by dwelling on one 'accursed' belief and replace it with 'I am the I AM; I cannot be touched by lack or defeat.' Sit in that feeling until it becomes your normal state.
