Biblical Context
Joseph's bones are buried in Shechem in a field Jacob bought, becoming the inheritance of the children of Joseph; Eleazar is buried in a hill in Ephraim. The verses show memory and priestly order settled within covenant community.
Neville's Inner Vision
All scripture is the language of your inner state. The bones of Joseph are not relics, but a memory of bondage carried in consciousness until you lay it to rest in soil you own. Buried in Shechem—the place of possession—signifies the field you purchase in imagination becomes the inheritance of your true self. The hundred pieces of silver symbolize the value you assign to this inner possession. The act of making it yours marks the passage from bondage to promise. Eleazar’s death and burial on a hill belonging to Phinehas in Ephraim speaks of priestly order unified with the land of your present life. It is the I AM in action within your heart, governing and blessing the space you inhabit. When these memories are anchored to a covenant-loving consciousness, you begin to see family, loyalty, and community as expressions of one undivided life. Thus the verse invites you to revise the past by burying its weight inside a field you own, and to dwell there as the rightful heir of your own I AM, united in purpose and unity.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine Joseph's bones carried into a field inside you, now purchased by your I AM as an inheritance. Whisper, 'I AM the possessor of this land; feel it real now.'
