Inner Covenant at Shechem
Joshua 24:1-2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Joshua 24 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Joshua gathers Israel to Shechem and recalls that their ancestors worshipped other gods; the call is to choose the LORD God of Israel and remain faithful to the covenant.
Neville's Inner Vision
Joshua's gathering is a symbol of your own consciousness assembling its scattered states. The elders, heads, judges, and officers are the competing mental patterns within you, presenting themselves before God—the I AM, your continuous awareness. When he speaks of your fathers dwelling beyond the flood and serving other gods, he names the inherited beliefs and identifications that have ruled your inner life. The flood marks the boundary between yesterday's mental streams and the awakening of today. The LORD God of Israel is not distant history but the I AM within you, the sovereign consciousness that holds all together. To worship Him truly is to revise those old idols by a deliberate act of belief: declare that you serve the Lord, your inner God, and let that allegiance displace former idols. The gathering and the covenant are inward decisions to inhabit the truth of your divine state here and now, without looking to external rites or past identifications.
Practice This Now
Assume the feeling that the I AM is your sole governance now; silently declare, 'I serve the LORD God of Israel within me.' Sit quietly for a few minutes and let the old beliefs fade as you reaffirm your covenant.
