Borders of Inner Consciousness
Joshua 16:2-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Joshua 16 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
It lists the outward borders from Bethel to Luz along the western edge to Gezer, ending at the sea. Spiritually, it speaks of the inner territories your awareness must travel to recognize the whole.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of these names as inner counties that your awareness maps within the one mind. Bethel—the 'house of God' you presently occupy in faith; Luz—the awakening where you remember you are not confined by history. The borders Archi, Ataroth, Japhleti, Bethhoron, Gezer—these are the specific dispositions your consciousness must pass: attention, desire, fatigue, resistance, and finally the sea—the vast, receptive mind of God. The phrase 'and the goings out thereof are at the sea' signals that your outward life flows from the sea of awareness when you stand in the truth that you are that sea. Providence and guidance are not external events but the internal movement of awareness responding to God within; as you revise your sense of self to include the whole coastline of possibility, you witness events unfolding in alignment with your inner posture. Covenant loyalty becomes fidelity to the I AM rather than to a limited identity. You are not traveling a map; you are lifting your consciousness to contain more of the divine life.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Close your eyes, and in your mind walk from Bethel to Luz, then along the imagined coast until Gezer, stopping at each border and saying, 'I AM this entire territory.' Then imagine stepping into the sea of pure awareness and feel the new boundary dissolving.
