Inner Wilderness Cities
Joshua 15:61-62 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Joshua 15 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage names six desert cities with their villages, presenting a compact map of inhabited, covenant-minded space within the wilderness.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this moment of inner life, the wilderness is not a distant place but your current state of awareness. The six cities—Betharabah, Middin, Secacah, Nibshan, the salt city, and Engedi—become stations of consciousness that you may cultivate within. They stand as facets of mind you tend with steadfast covenant loyalty: perception, memory, intention, feeling, community, and sacred devotion. Rather than seeking God in far lands, you are invited to recognize the I AM, the presence of God within, as the ruler who moves through these cities, translating wilderness into a kingdom of God. When you remember that the land you walk is inside you, you can populate the inner landscape with order, peace, and fidelity to the covenant. Each city becomes a doorway to an aspect of your being that loves and serves the I AM. As you dwell there, the sense of separation dissolves and the divine presence enlarges your entire experience.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume you are already dwelling in the six inner cities. Revise any doubt into covenant loyalty and feel the I AM settling in as presence.
