Inner Victory of the Five Kings

Joshua 10:22-27 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Joshua 10 in context

Scripture Focus

22Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.
23And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
24And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
25And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
26And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.
27And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.
Joshua 10:22-27

Biblical Context

Joshua has the five kings brought out from the cave, witnesses, and then commands their defeat and execution. The episode ends with stones sealing the cave, signifying closure and continued providence.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your inner Joshua is the I AM waking in you, aware of every submerged king within your psyche. The five kings—perhaps fear, pride, anger, doubt, and envy—have lurked in a cave of unconscious habit. When you turn to awareness, you call forth the captains of your inner army; you invite them into the light of consciousness for examination. To set your feet upon their necks is not a gesture of tyranny but a symbolic act: you acknowledge their hold only as long as you give them energy through resistence. In the light of I AM, these states lose their grip and you stand firm, unshaken, as the LORD’s power proceeds against all your enemies imagined or real. The hanging on trees and the stone-sealed mouth signify separation and release: once you have acknowledged and neutralized them in imagination, these states are buried in the cave of your mind, no longer active in your daily theater. The sunset line marks a completed cycle of inner conquest; victory is not bestowed from without but made real through your continual turning of attention to the I AM.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly and name five inner states you wish to transform (fear, doubt, anger, pride, fatigue). Then imagine these 'kings' stepping from the cave into the light, place your awareness above them, and declare 'I AM' until their grip dissolves; feel the quiet victory in your chest.
