Inner Obedience and Courage
Joshua 1:17-18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Joshua 1 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
People pledge to follow Joshua as they did Moses, trusting God's presence with him. They warn that rebellion will be met with consequences and call for strength and courage.
Neville's Inner Vision
Beloved, Joshua 1:17–18 is not a tale of a people abroad but a map of your inner life. The cry, “As we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee,” is your old self agreeing to the latest assumption you have chosen to inhabit. The statement, “the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses,” declares that the Presence you seek is already with you in the I AM now affirming your decision. The threat against rebellion is the natural consequence of clinging to outdated states of consciousness; when you refuse the new command, you quietly dissolve the old pattern. Therefore, be strong and of a good courage, not by willpower alone but by choosing to dwell in the new state until it becomes your default. Your obedience is fidelity to the inner decree; covenant loyalty is your steady alignment with the I AM you are becoming. When you truly live from that Presence, the outer world mirrors the inner calm, and perseverance becomes daily revision—returning again and again to the assumed reality until it stands as your only experience.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit in silence and revise the scene to 'The Presence within me is with me now.' Feel the courage rise as you hold the assumed state and notice the world begin to respond.
