Inner Depths of Salvation
Jonah 2:6-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Jonah 2 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jonah describes descending into the depths and being brought up by the LORD; he remembers the LORD, his prayer reaches the holy temple, and true mercy comes from God rather than idols; he vows gratitude and declares salvation is from the LORD.
Neville's Inner Vision
Jonah’s plunge symbolizes the soul’s descent into the subconscious where 'the earth with her bars' would imprison us. Yet the I AM within—the LORD—pulls life up from every corruption. When the soul 'faints' and remembers the LORD, prayer enters the temple of consciousness, lifting the sense of separation. The line about 'lying vanities' warns that clinging to external idols—fear, pride, and lack—cuts us off from mercy and our own true nature. The true sacrifice is not ritual but a sustained feeling of gratitude and a vow kept within imagination: 'Salvation is of the LORD,' realized as your present state. The inner victory is to remember and align with the I AM, knowing that the state you seek is the state you are. In that alignment, the outward world follows the inner redemption.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and breathe into the I AM within. Assume the feeling that you are already saved, release a chosen vanity, and affirm aloud, 'Salvation is of the LORD—now' while feeling gratitude fill your being.
