True Freedom Through the Word
John 8:31-36 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read John 8 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus says true disciples are those who continue in his word and know the truth. The bondage of sin holds people, while the Son makes you free.
Neville's Inner Vision
Let us enter the scene as those who believe. The words are not commands to be performed on others, but a map of your own inner states. 'If ye continue in my word' means you keep faith with the law you have imagined as true in you. The truth spoken is the awareness you already are: the I AM, the living Son within. When you take that posture, you know the truth, and the truth makes you free—free from the counterfeit bondage of fear, limitation, and the sense of separation. The 'servant' is the habitual self-image born of sin, a state of mind that pretends to rule; the 'Son' is the consistent, abiding presence that remains forever. The moment you shift your attention from externals to this inner law, you are no longer governed by appearances. The Son within you is not future; it is present as your identifying reality. In this inner realm, grace is your natural condition, and freedom is the natural consequence of recognizing yourself as the Word in flesh.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the state 'I am free now.' Revise every moment where bondage seems real by saying 'the Son within makes me free,' and feel that liberating truth as your own.
