Light Of The World Within

John 8:12-20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read John 8 in context

Scripture Focus

12Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
John 8:12-20

Biblical Context

Jesus declares he is the light of the world and promises that those who follow him will walk in the light of life. The deeper message centers on inner discernment rather than outward appearances.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this passage, the light is not a distant orb but the awakening of awareness within you. To follow the Christ is to align your present state with the I AM that knows whence it came and whither it goes. The world you see is the testimony of your own inner motion; the Pharisee's complaint is the mind clinging to appearances, while Jesus speaks from the Father within—the two witnesses are your own consciousness and the divine idea it bears. When you claim, 'I am the light of the world,' you are not boasting; you are stating a fact of your being. Your judgment, though it fashions rules from flesh, can be superseded by the inner verdict that you are never separate from the Father, who sent you. The light shines in the treasury of your temple; no human hand can dim it unless you forget your origin. The hour Jesus spoke of is the moment you remember that you and the Father are one and that the light you witness in others is your own light taking form.

Practice This Now

Imaginatively assume the I AM is the light of your world; revise a moment of darkness by quietly affirming 'I am the light of the world' and feel the glow expanding through you.
