Inner Rivers of Living Water
John 7:37-39 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read John 7 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus invites the thirsty to come to Him and drink, promising that believers will have rivers of living water flowing from within—the Spirit, to be received once He is glorified.
Neville's Inner Vision
All of this is a directive to the inner man. The thirst is your yearning for the awareness of God; the invitation to come and drink is an act of turning your attention from external props to the I AM within. When you believe on the Christ within, as the Scriptures say, your belly—your innermost self—becomes a fountain of living water. The 'rivers' are not external rain; they are the continual flow of spiritual life that emerges from a reawakened consciousness. The clause about the Spirit being not yet given points not to history but to your own state of readiness: you do not yet know who you are; you have not glorified your inner I AM. But to the one who believes, the inner glorification begins now, and the Spirit becomes a present, moving river. Drink is not consumption of something outside; it is the conscious reception of God’s life into your imagination, feeling, and belief. As you align with the truth that you are the I AM, the Spirit flows, renewing, empowering, and creating a new inner reality—a new creation.
Practice This Now
Assume the state that you already drink—the river within is flowing; relax into that sensation and silently declare, 'I am the living water within me, and I am carried by this Spirit now.'
