Inner Will and True Doctrine

John 7:17-19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read John 7 in context

Scripture Focus

17If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
John 7:17-19

Biblical Context

When a person is willing to do God's will, the true source of the doctrine becomes evident. Those who speak for themselves seek their own glory, while those who speak for the One who sent them testify truthfully.

Neville's Inner Vision

Let us read this as a scene inside consciousness. The line 'If any man will do his will' is not about distant commands but about the inner willingness of your awareness to align with the I AM that you are. To 'do the will' is to assume you are the instrument of the Father here and now, so thoughts, feelings, and words reflect that inner decree. When you inhabit that assumption, the doctrine spoken to you ceases to be a set of external rules and becomes a living impression within your mind—truth that feels God-present rather than merely spoken. The one who speaks for himself seeks his own glory; the one who seeks the glory of Him who sent him is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him because the whole communication arises from the same source within you. Moses gave the law, yet the inner law is obedience to that inner will. If you maintain this inner alignment, you will recognize the doctrine as the activity of your own awareness, and you will no longer be divided between outward law and inner certainty. Your willingness to act in harmony with this inner will reveals the truth that the doctrine is God within you.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: close your eyes, assume 'I am willing to do God's will now,' and feel the reality of that alignment. Then revise any doubt by affirming, 'I already know the doctrine that comes from the Father who sent me.'
