Inner Witness of the Father

John 5:37-38 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read John 5 in context

Scripture Focus

37And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
38And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
John 5:37-38

Biblical Context

The Father bears witness to Jesus, but people have not heard the Father or seen His form, and they do not have the Father's word within because they do not believe the one He sent.

Neville's Inner Vision

John records that the Father bears witness to the Son, and that men have not heard His voice, nor seen His form; the key is not external signs but the state of consciousness that would receive that witness. In Neville's voice: The Father is the I AM within you, the inner witness that confirms the life you actually live. When you doubt, you are denying the Father’s word abiding in you; when you do not believe the one He sent, you refuse to acknowledge the truth that your own awareness has already produced the image of the Son. The 'sent' one is your most cherished idea, the version of you that has become real to you in imagination. The remedy is not to seek images outside but to return to the inner court of your consciousness, where the Father speaks through feeling and assumption. To hear Him, you must quiet the senses and accept that your present experiences are the end-product of the moment you first believed.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes, assume the Father’s witness is already true in you; revise the belief that you have not heard Him into, 'I hear the Father within me now,' and feel that witness as present.
