Read John 4 in context

Scripture Focus

17The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
John 4:17-18

Biblical Context

The scene presents a woman saying she has no husband. Jesus reveals her five previous marriages and that the man she now has is not her husband.

Neville's Inner Vision

On the inner level this treasure of conversation is your own consciousness. The woman is the field of your now, the place where life’s energy moves. The five husbands symbolize past states you entertained as your identity—fears, pleasures, hopes, roles, and familiar beliefs that kept you at a distance from the one reality you seek. When she says I have no husband, that is the moment of inner clarity: you are not bound to any former state. Jesus replying that you have well said suggests the awakened awareness that you are not confined by outward definitions. The man she now has, not thy husband, signals that your present attachment is not the ultimate truth; it points to a turning away from the old covenant of lack toward a new covenant of living unity with the I AM within. The invitation is repentance, turning to the reality that you are pure consciousness, not a collection of names and relations. Your current step is to acknowledge that you are not defined by the past, and to align the inner state with truth by feeling the unity of I AM here now.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly, revise your inner story to I am the I AM now, not the past identities. Feel it real by imaging the present moment as your covenant and allow the truth to direct your next choice.
