9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
John 3:9

Biblical Context

Nicodemus, a teacher, voices perplexity, asking how such inner truths can be known.

Neville's Inner Vision

Nicodemus’s question marks a mind trained in outward proofs confronting an inward language. In the Goddard view, these 'things' Jesus speaks of are not mysteries to be solved by argument, but states of consciousness to be lived. Being born of the Spirit points to a new center of attention—the I AM beneath your thoughts. Nicodemus seeks a method; the answer is not a technique but a transformation of belief. You don’t discover these things by watching for evidence; you become them by assuming the reality of the truth within and feeling it until it stands as your immediate experience. The inner world is governed by imagination; the light in you shines when you persist in the sense that the truth you seek is already true in you. Perplexity serves as a signal to shift from intellectual doubt to inner faith. When you reinterpret 'these things' as the activity of your own consciousness, the path opens, and what was hidden becomes seen in the light of your I AM.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare: I am now aware of these inner things; I understand them as present. Then imagine yourself living from that state, letting the truth fill your feeling until doubt fades.
