John 3:28 speaks of a man who says he is not the Christ, but the one sent before Him. In Neville’s psychology, John is a state of consciousness that notices a rising truth but does not claim it yet. The phrase 'you yourselves bear me witness' becomes your inner acknowledgment that you are not the finished Christ, but the herald by which the Christ within makes His entrance. The Christ is not external; He is the awakened I AM inside you. When you feel the impulse, 'I am not the Christ,' you are clearing space for the greater reality to arrive. The movement of the verse is inward: your current self acts as the forerunner to your realized self. By consenting to be the witness and not the final form, you cultivate the conditions in which the inner Christ can unfold. Your revision is to inhabit the role of forerunner, knowing that the Christ within is always present, awaiting only your conscious recognition.
