Temple Commerce Cleared Within

John 2:16 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read John 2 in context

Scripture Focus

16And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
John 2:16

Biblical Context

Jesus rebukes turning his Father's house into a marketplace. The temple is a holy space that should not be defiled by commerce.

Neville's Inner Vision

John 2:16 is a parable for the life of consciousness. The temple is not bricks but the I AM within your mind. The dove sellers and the merchants symbolize thoughts that reduce life to exchange and profit. Jesus’ act exposes a truth you must claim in your own heart: the Father’s house is sacred, and you are its sole resident when you are fully awake to awareness. When you identify with the old habit of buying and selling—taking appearances as reality—you turn the temple into a marketplace. But your true worship flows from reverent attention to the I AM, not external ritual or gain. Righteousness and justice arise when you keep this sanctuary pure, when you refuse to let mental merchandise crowd the sacred space. The “house of mercy” flourishes only as you withdraw your focus from external outcomes and place it on the one light within. This is the inward cleansing Jesus enacts, teaching you to separate your awareness from the world’s commerce and to align with the silent, omnipresent Father who dwells in you as you.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the temple as your pure inner awareness. Revise the thought, 'This place is for sale' to 'This is the Father's house within me' and feel it real.
