Release the Inner King
John 18:39-40 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read John 18 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
In John 18:39-40, the crowd asks for Barabbas to be released instead of Jesus during Passover; they deny the King of the Jews and choose a robber.
Neville's Inner Vision
John 18:39-40 presents a courtroom of the soul. The crowd’s cry for Barabbas over Jesus is your inner script choosing fear and worldly power over the Christ within. Notice that the 'King of the Jews' is offered to be released, yet the outer scene reveals a deeper inner choice: you are always free to release the version of yourself you call Barabbas—the rebel, the robber—yet you also carry the authority to enthrone the King within. In Neville's terms, God is the I AM in awareness, and imagination is the selecting power. The crowd's voice is your current state of consciousness deciding between two inner movements: one that binds you to action grounded in fear, and one that surrenders to the divine kingship already resident in your heart. To experience the inner release, you must revise the scene in your mind: declare that the King is present and reigning in your mind right now, and that the robber has no power to command your life. When you align with the inner king, the sense of being judged by the crowd evaporates; mercy is your natural state.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and, in the theater of your mind, present a Passover table and the choice: 'Not Barabbas, but the King.' Feel the King’s authority as your own I AM, and gently revise any fear to that kingly presence.
