Read John 16 in context

Scripture Focus

33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

Biblical Context

John 16:33 promises peace in Christ even amid tribulation. It points to an inner state of consciousness, not a condition to be found externally.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville, 'in me' reveals that peace is not something you obtain from the world but an inner state you assume. When Jesus says the world will tribulate, he is pointing to the subjective battlefield where images and feelings arise--your mind's motion. The phrase 'I have overcome the world' signals that the victory is already achieved in the I AM: the awareness that knows itself as unshakeable. Therefore, the world's upheavals are but waves in the sea of your self-hood; you calm them by accepting the assurance of peace and acting from that reality. Be of good cheer is a directive to dwell in the finished state rather than in fear; as you persist in the assumption, your world conforms to the inner conviction. This is not passive resignation but active the practice of imagination: you are the cause in consciousness, and the effects you see are the fruit of your inner attitude. Continue, and you will discover salvation as awakening within your own awareness—the redemption of identification with the world.

Practice This Now

Take a moment now. Close your eyes and repeat: I am the I AM, at peace in Christ; the world has no power over me. In this feeling, imagine a current situation you fear dissolving into calm, and let the feeling of victory persist.
