The Inner Command to Love
John 15:12-13 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read John 15 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus commands us to love one another as he loves us, and true love is shown by selfless giving.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville, this is not a social ritual but a law of consciousness. 'This is my commandment' speaks to a state you must inhabit, not a rule you perform. If you know yourself as the I AM, love becomes the natural atmosphere of your mind; to love as Jesus loved you is to accept unity, to identify with the one life that throbs in all beings. When you imagine another as separate, you feel resistance; when you align with the truth that 'no man has life of his own' but shares the I AM, the other becomes your mirror. The 'lay down his life for his friends' is the dying away of the old self that fears loss and separation. In that surrender, your inner light expands, and action flows from a state of harmony. The command becomes a certainty: you are already at one with your neighbor in consciousness; let your outward acts spring from that inner union, and obedience becomes freedom, not duty.
Practice This Now
Imagine you are already loving your neighbor as Christ loves you. Feel the I AM unity within and revise every grievance into gratitude.
