Biblical Context

Thomas challenges the group to go with Jesus, a move born from communal loyalty; Jesus arrives to find Lazarus already dead, while Bethany lies near Jerusalem and people comfort Mary and Martha.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this scene every name is a state of consciousness. Thomas’s bold line, Let us go, that we may die with him, is the decision to accompany the divine idea into the field of experience, regardless of fear. The four days of the tomb symbolize a stubborn belief in deathliness within the mind, yet the tomb is not the end but a pattern ready to be revised by awareness. Bethany, near Jerusalem, marks the inner kingdom accessible to action—the realization that presence can be felt in life when the mind chooses the truth over appearances. The arrival of many Jews to Martha and Mary represents the flood of thoughts and sympathies that crowd the imagination when change is attempted. Yet the truth remains: the presence of God, I AM, is always here; when you align with that consciousness, life responds to your inner assumption as if it were already done, and community becomes unity of purpose in mind.

Practice This Now

Assume you are already in the company of the divine idea; in your mind, declare and feel, I AM with you now, feel the presence as real as air, and let fear dissolve into unity. Let this feeling revise your sense of time and danger into a present, shared life.
