Scripture Focus

3To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
John 10:3-5

Biblical Context

Plain summary: The porter opens the gate; the sheep hear the shepherd's voice, he calls them by name, and leads them out. They follow because they know his voice and flee from strangers who do not know it.

Neville's Inner Vision

John 10:3-5 invites you to translate the scene into the language of your own consciousness. The porter opening the gate is your decision to admit a higher state of awareness. The shepherd’s voice is the I AM within you—the name by which you are known at the center of your being. When you hear that voice and respond, you are led forth by the life that follows from your inner conviction. The sheep know his voice; that recognition is not external sight but inner alignment—a sense of truth that feels as familiar as your own name. A stranger’s voice—fear, doubt, or ego—may try to call you away, but it cannot rule you unless you consent by listening. Thus cultivate a daily practice of letting the inner shepherd lead: imagine following the inner guide, watching your life unfold in harmony with that leading, and feel the certainty that this reality is true in consciousness. The obedient heart remains faithful because it trusts the I AM who calls by name and goes before.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly and declare, 'I am the sheep who hears and follows the shepherd within.' Feel the inner path opening as you dwell in that awareness.
