Witness to the Inner Light
John 1:6-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read John 1 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
John was a man sent from God to bear witness to the Light; he is not the Light itself. The true Light enlightens every person who comes into the world.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of John as the inner function of consciousness—a witness assigned to point the mind toward the Light that already shines within. In this scripture, the 'Light' is not outside you but the living awareness behind every thought and sensation. The gifted John is the telephone line, a reminder that belief comes through testimony, not by becoming the Light itself; your attention, your faith, and your imagination are the channel through which illumination enters. When you hear of 'that Light' lighting every man, understand that you are not excluded; the moment you identify yourself as the witness to that Light, you become the very instrument by which awareness awakens. Your present experience—belief, perception, and feeling—reflects the degree to which you allow the Light to shine through you. Practice by assuming that you are the witness who witnesses the Light within, and revise any sense of separation as mere misidentification. The world then shifts, because you are choosing to inhabit the truth that you are Light, and every occasion of life becomes a manifestation of that inner radiance.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the role of the witness within, John, the inner messenger, who testifies to the Light. Hold that feeling and declare, I am the Light that enlightens my world, allowing the inner witness to illuminate your circumstances.
