Inner Light: Life in the Word

John 1:4-5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read John 1 in context

Scripture Focus

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1:4-5

Biblical Context

John 1:4-5 says life resides in the divine Word, and that life becomes the light for humanity; the light shines in darkness, and darkness cannot grasp it.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within you, 'In him was life' declares that life is not something you obtain but the I AM you already are. The life that John calls 'the light of men' is consciousness itself—your living awareness that reveals what you inwardly assume. The Word is the living decree you utter in feeling: I am, I have, I shine. When you align with that inner decree, the light becomes your governing sight, and the scenes of your life bend toward truth rather than lack. The darkness that seems to surround you is simply unfinished states of mind, beliefs that you are separate from your essential light. It cannot overcome the light because the light is the nature of your being; darkness 'comprehends' it only when you return to the end-state and stop dwelling in the old picture. Practice holding the end: you are life; you are light; the world is seen through that awareness. Do not chase results in struggle; maintain the feeling of I AM until it fills every cell and every room of your life. The moment you rest there, your world reflects your inner light.

Practice This Now

Assume the state: I AM life, I AM light, and feel it real for a few minutes; visualize a bright stream of light flowing from your chest, illuminating your surroundings.
