Read Job 31 in context

Scripture Focus

9If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;
10Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.
Job 31:9-10

Biblical Context

Job declares his heart has not been deceived by a woman and that he has not schemed against his neighbor's wife. He asserts that if he were guilty, the punishment would fall upon him.

Neville's Inner Vision

Observe that the line about a heart deceived by a woman is not about an external event but about a state of consciousness. The 'woman' is a restless desire, a seductive thought that tempts you away from harmony and neighbor-love. 'Laying wait at the neighbour's door' becomes an inner posture: a mind that schemes to possess, to violate trust, to make another a means to satisfy a craving. In Neville's terms, you are the I AM, the awareness that makes all images real. If you entertain such a dream, you have invited its momentum into your world; yet you can wake from it by deciding you are the author of your inner scenery. Return to your immaculate state: you are one with pure intention, an expression of love and integrity. The 'punishment' Job mentions is the natural law that follows thought; change the state, and the scene changes. Do not blame a person or fate; re-embody your higher self and let your world reflect that truth.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly, assume the state 'I AM integrity itself,' and revise any scene of temptation by picturing a neighbor's happiness and your own loyal regard; feel the reality of that state until it remains.
