Biblical Context
Job 27:22-23 speaks of God casting upon a person and not sparing, and of people applauding and hisssing him from his place—depicting fierce inner judgments and a felt exile from one’s rightful position.
Neville's Inner Vision
What you call God here is the I AM within you—the unchanging awareness that frames all experience. The verses describe the outer experience of judgment and exile as a reflection of inner belief. When you identify with a separated self, the inner state “casts” its fear and fault onto you, and you feel compelled to flee the hand that presses these thoughts to surface. The crowd that claps and hisses is the chorus of your own thoughts and social self-judgments, not an external punishment. By recognizing that these appearances are only states of consciousness, you can choose a different end: you are not at the mercy of these judgments, for the I AM within you is your true judge and sovereign. As you awaken to this, the sense of exile dissolves; you return to your rightful place in the divine order. The verse thus becomes a map of the inner process: release the old self-image, and the external conditions align with your renewed consciousness—righteousness through awareness, justice through imagination.
Practice This Now
Sit quietly and declare, 'I AM the I AM; I am not defined by the crowd or their judgments.' Then revise the scene by imagining God casting off fear from you and the crowd’s voice fading, as you stand securely in your divine I AM and feel a felt sense of return.
