Biblical Context

Job describes searching for God in front, behind, left, and right, yet perceiving Him nowhere outwardly. The passage hints that the divine presence lies within the I AM and can be known through inner faith and endurance.

Neville's Inner Vision

Job 23:8-9 speaks of moving in every direction—forward, backward, left, right—only to meet an unseen God who seems hidden. In the Neville manner, this is not a geography but a state of consciousness: God is not distant, for God is the I AM that you are aware of when you turn your attention inward. The outward theater you survey is a reflection of your current assumptions about separation. When you feel the absence, you are simply expanding the space where imagination has not yet been allowed to reign. Begin from the truth that you are the one who sees; your inner awareness is the seat of movement, the center from which God speaks as I AM. By feeling it real you revise the scene: declare, in effect, that Presence is already here, now, already involved in every forward step, every backward glance, every direction. Do not chase Him in space; let your consciousness claim Him as your own I AM. Perseverance is trust that your inner vision is true, even when the senses report otherwise.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and affirm I AM within me now. Revise any sense of absence by imagining a warm light at the center of my chest and staying there until presence feels real.
