Read Job 23 in context

Scripture Focus

15Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
Job 23:15

Biblical Context

Job says he is troubled by God's presence and fears when he contemplates it.

Neville's Inner Vision

Job speaks from the state where God’s presence feels like a test. But the 'presence' Job fears is not outside us; it is the I AM within, the conscious light by which all things are seen. When I think of that presence as separate, I contract and tremble; when I acknowledge it as the living I AM, fear dissolves. The disturbance is simply the mind’s resistance to being measured by pure consciousness—the standard of integrity that I already am. The remedy is practical: assume that you are already abiding in that presence, revise the sense of separation, and feel it real in the chest and the breath. Say to yourself, I am the I AM here and now, perfectly aware, perfectly safe. Then watch the fear fade into reverent calm; the inner judge becomes a gentle witness, not a tormentor. As one dwells in the awareness that sees and sustains all, there is no distance between Job’s trembling and the final assurance: presence and safety are the same, inside me, right now.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and repeat mentally: I am the I AM here and now; I stand in the presence of God within me, and fear yields to fearless, peaceful awareness.
