Biblical Context
Job laments that flattery harms his standing and makes him a byword. His sorrow dims his eyes and his body feels like a fading shadow.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice how the text translates into your inner weather. Flattery becomes a signal of an unseen pact with the outer world, a suggestion that your worth is measured by others' mouths. Yet the I AM within refuses to be moved by mere words, for consciousness is the sole authority of reality. When your eyes grow dim with sorrow, you are not failing; you are alarmed by a belief that life is outside you instead of arising from within. The byword and the fading strength are only images - shadows cast by a mistaken identification with circumstance. In truth, you are the eternal witness, the tabret of inner harmony that can play a steady tune regardless of external sound. By returning to the state of awareness that already possesses all good, you revise the interpretation of every event: flattery recedes as your vision brightens, sorrow dissolves as your inner light asserts itself, and your limbs regain the sense of living power. The key is to dwell in I AM, to feel the reality of your wholeness now, and let imagination be your corrective in the present moment.
Practice This Now
For 7 days, whenever you feel threatened by flattery or overwhelmed by sorrow, close your eyes and assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled: I AM whole and my inner sight is clear. Then revise the scene in your mind, replacing decay with vitality and saying, 'This shadow passes; I remain the I AM.'
