Job 14:20-22 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Job 14 in context

Scripture Focus

20Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
21His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
22But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
Job 14:20-22

Biblical Context

The verse asserts the sovereignty of the divine I AM over human life: outer conditions shift as inner states change, while physical pain and grief persist. It hints that what truly matters is the inner state, not immediate appearances, and that perceived losses may cloak new freedoms.

Neville's Inner Vision

Job 14:20–22 is a map of your inner kingdom. Thou prevailest for ever against him shows the I AM within you triumphing over every changing state of fear or pain. The change of countenance and the sending away speaks of how the mind re-envisions itself, releasing the old image as you cling to the truth that you are the I AM observing, never the victim of circumstance. His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them: new harmonies and opportunities surface in your inner life before outer events catch your eye, often unnoticed by the old self. But the final line—his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn—reminds you that you might still feel the residual pain of the old dream until you revise it by the one conviction: I AM. When you dwell there, the outer is the echo of your inner state, and renewal becomes your lived experience.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the conviction: I AM prevails in me now. Let the feeling of the wish fulfilled wash through you until the body rests in vitality, then observe how the outer life begins to reflect that inner state.
