Inner Idols and the State You Are

Jeremiah 7:9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

9Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
Jeremiah 7:9

Biblical Context

Jeremiah 7:9 names a string of social sins—stealing, murder, adultery, lying, and ritual worship of Baal—followed by worshiping other gods who are not the true God within. It calls these outward acts a reflection of an inner stance.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of this verse as a mirror, not a commandbook. The 'you' in Jeremiah is your own consciousness when it forgets its Source. Stealing, killing, and adultery are not acts in a distant land but movements of a mind that substitutes appearances for reality, syllables for truth, idols for the I AM. Swearing falsely is the self lying to itself about what it truly wants. Burning incense to Baal is worshiping an image—an opinion, a habit, a reputation—rather than the living God within. Walking after other gods whom ye know not is following assumed identities—victim, sinner, surely this or that external power—when all power is within the awareness you call God. The law is not a list; it is the alignment of your inner state with your divine nature. Change your inner stance, and the outer world aligns. Your task is to reverse the movement: from fear-driven action to trust in the one presence you truly know—the I AM. When you cease to identify with those false authorities, you no longer act as though you are defended by idols.

Practice This Now

Practice: Assume the inner state of integrity now: I AM the I AM, and in me nothing harms another. Feel the revision as real for five minutes, then carry the stance into one everyday choice today.
