The Eagle Nest Within
Jeremiah 49:16 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Jeremiah 49 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse warns that lofty pride and a self-centered ego, no matter how lofty, will be brought down by the inner order of God.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the verse as a pointer to your inner geography. The eagle's nest on the cliff is the proud self that says, 'I stand above others because my position is secure.' But the LORD—the I AM you awaken to in imagination—announces that such height is not a shelter but a mirage, and that judgment is simply your own awareness turning inward. When you identify with a separate, lofty self, you forget that all height is an image in consciousness. The so-called terribleness and pride are not outside forces; they are states you entertain in the mind. To be forgiven is to notice that you can revoke that image and replace it with a reality in which you are neither above nor below, but present as the I AM. In Neville's terms, you revise the self-concept by assuming a new state: as the Presence that never leaves itself, you feel the eagle's height fall into the transparent calm of awareness, the nest dissolving into stillness. This is not punishment but a correction of impression, restoring your awareness to its center. The moment you assume 'I am the Presence' and feel it real, the imagined high perch dissolves and you awaken to true security in God-consciousness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine the I AM addressing you: you are not the height you project but the Presence that fills all space. Revise your self-image by declaring: I am the Presence; feel the descent of pride into quiet union.
