Descending From The Higher Peak

Jeremiah 49:15-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Jeremiah 49 in context

Scripture Focus

15For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen, and despised among men.
16Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
17Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.
Jeremiah 49:15-17

Biblical Context

The verses warn that pride makes one small and despised, and that apparent height—like a rocky nest—will be brought down. It also foretells desolation for Edom, a symbolic mark of overreaching arrogance.

Neville's Inner Vision

Jeremiah’s words are not about a country alone; they are the drama of your own consciousness. The ‘clefts of the rock’ and the eagle’s nest symbolize a mind perched on separation, trusting pride to keep it safe. When you insist you are tall, terrible, and untouchable, you are not punished by the world but gently reminded by your own imagination that such height is a dream. The sentence, I will bring thee down from thence, is the plainspoken invitation to revise your self-image until, in your I AM, you feel no need to prove yourself. Edom’s desolation becomes the evidence of a mind that has forgotten its unity with Life; every desolate judgment you harbor about others or yourself is a signpost of inner misalignment. The true exodus is inward: return to the awareness that you are the I AM, the there-not-yet, and the there-after all at once. When you inhabit that awareness, the inner hill collapses into grace, and humility restores your footing.

Practice This Now

Practice: In a quiet moment, revise the scene: affirm 'I am the I AM,' and feel the relief of letting go of height as you settle into humble, all-seeing awareness.
