The Moab of the verse is not a people set apart but a symbol for the fixed powers you trust in life. The strong staff and the beautiful rod are the external handles—roles, status, control—that you lean on. When they break, the sentence is a summons: who are you when power as you knew it is gone? The 'around him' are your swirling thoughts and the names you cling to, echoing, 'How is the strong staff broken?' This is the moment of inner shift: revise the assumption about power, feel the break, and allow a truer selfhood to arise. The renewal is not in reconstructing the staff, but in recognizing that power is not an object but awareness—the I AM that you are. The broken symbol clears the way for the unchanging I AM to govern as your reality. So the verse invites you to cease seeking authority outside and to dwell in the inner king—present, aware, and sovereign.
