Scripture Focus

17Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
Jeremiah 34:17

Biblical Context

The verse states that the people did not heed God's call to liberty, and it proclaims liberty that appears as judgment—sword, pestilence, and famine—dispersing the people to other lands. It suggests that true liberty begins within, an inner sovereignty revealed when one heeds the inner voice of the I AM.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within the I AM, liberty is not given as a reward from without but awakened as the awareness that you are the creator of your world. When Jeremiah speaks of a liberty that comes with the sword, pestilence, and famine, see these terms as symbolic of inner cleansings: the sword cuts away old images, pestilence purges fear-thoughts, famine reveals how your attention starves new possibilities. You have not hearkened to the quiet voice of the I AM within, and so you experience a present outside that mirrors your unresolved states. The 'kingdoms of the earth' are simply different rooms in the consciousness you inhabit; eschew victimhood and assume the role of sovereign. The liberty God proclaims is the liberty of awareness: to know you are one with the I AM, and thus the power to breathe new life into any situation. When you align with that inner decree, external conditions reorganize to reflect your inner peace, not punish you for past thoughts. You become the observer and the actor simultaneously, and the so-called calamities recede as your inner vision shifts.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: In the next few minutes, sit in quiet, repeat 'I AM liberty now' until it feels true, then revise a current fear or lack as a state of liberty and dwell in the feeling of being the I AM.
