Jeremiah's Inner Call

Jeremiah 1:5-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Jeremiah 1 in context

Scripture Focus

5Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
6Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
7But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
8Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
9Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
10See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
Jeremiah 1:5-10

Biblical Context

God knew Jeremiah before birth and ordained him a prophet to the nations. He protests being a child, but God commands him to speak and assures his protection as words are placed in his mouth.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville, these lines reveal the soul’s pre-birth decree: you are known by your I AM and called to act from that awareness. Jeremiah’s formation in the womb is a metaphor for how your inner self already exists as the governor of your world. The prophet’s fear of speech points to the age-old belief that you are a child of circumstance; yet the command to cease saying 'I am a child' invites you to assume the function you have already been given by the One within. When God says, 'I have put my words in thy mouth,' He is reminding you that your spoken word is the outward sign of an inward state. The moment you acknowledge that you are set over the nations and the kingdoms within your own mind, your decisions and actions align with that sovereignty. The external becomes a reflection of your internal decree. The invitation is simple: dwell in the certainty of your I AM, and let the thoughts and words that arise from that center lead you to act as the one ordained for the task.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume the state that you are already the vessel of the I AM. Imagine God touching your mouth and pouring words into it, then speak a short message in your imagination as though it is true now.
