The Vapour Of Tomorrow

James 4:13-14 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read James 4 in context

Scripture Focus

13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
James 4:13-14

Biblical Context

James 4:13-14 warns against presuming tomorrow's plans, showing life as a fleeting vapour. It invites humility and trust in the present consciousness over outward schemes.

Neville's Inner Vision

From the Neville vantage, James's word is not a clock but a warning to wake to your true state. You are not a body moving through days; you are the I AM in whom every plan is imagined into form. The morrow never comes as a separate thing; it arises from the present state you assume in consciousness. When you hear yourself say we will go to such a city, and buy and sell, recognize it as a map of the inner scene you already occupy. If you want that outer result, do not chase outward motion; instead, decide the inner state that would have produced it and dwell there. Imagination is the law of life: by assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled now, you convert vapour into substance. Let humility govern your planning, and let your present sense of I AM be the only planner you trust. Keep your attention on the one present self who creates, and watch the external world align with that inner state.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: In the next minute, close your eyes and assume the state of having already achieved your aim; feel gratitude and let I AM govern your awareness as if the future is already present.
