Inner Restoration And Joy

Isaiah 61:4-7 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 61 in context

Scripture Focus

4And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
5And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.
7For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.
Isaiah 61:4-7

Biblical Context

Isaiah 61:4-7 speaks of restoring what was desolate and rebuilding damaged places. Outsiders will participate in the abundance, and the faithful will be named priests of the Lord, receiving double joy.

Neville's Inner Vision

I tell you, the chapter is not about geography but the state you inhabit. The 'old wastes' and 'desolations' are memories and beliefs you have accepted as final. When you entertain the idea that you can rebuild them in your inner life, you are laying stone upon stone of a new consciousness. The strangers and the sons of the alien represent those unrecognized faculties within you—intuition, joy, courage—standing up to feed your flocks as you acknowledge them. As you call yourself 'the priests of the Lord' you are naming the God within—your I AM awareness—who ministers to all aspects of yourself. Eating the riches of the Gentiles and boasting in their glory means you feed on ideas and sources outside your former self and find your true abundance there, but only as you interpret them from your higher I AM. Your shame is exchanged for a double portion; your confusion becomes joy as you rest in the new land of consciousness you have decided to inhabit.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly and assume, 'I am the Priest of the Lord, and abundance flows through me.' Feel the double joy as already mine, and notice how the sense of lack dissolves.
