Inner Hearing, Desolate Heart

Isaiah 6:9-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 6 in context

Scripture Focus

9And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
10Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
11Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,
12And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.
Isaiah 6:9-12

Biblical Context

Isaiah 6:9-12 depicts a people who hear and see, yet do not understand or convert. Their inner heart grows dull and their land becomes desolate until a turning of consciousness occurs.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within the oracle, hearing and seeing are not 'out there' but inside you, as states of consciousness you inhabit. The instruction to harden the heart, to weigh down the ears, and to close the eyes is not punishment but a reveal: you have exhausted a pattern of resistance that pretends perception while withholding understanding. When you persist in such a stance, the inner city wanes—houses empty, fields barren—because you have withdrawn from the living I AM that animates all. The question 'how long?' becomes a patient invitation to look at your own moment-to-moment thoughts and choices. The exile and the great forsaking indicate that you are clinging to a former identity, believing separation. Yet healing is not distant; it is a change of consciousness. By choosing a new assumption, by feeling the end desired as already complete, you awaken the inner land. Slowly, your eyes soften, your ears awaken, and what you formerly could not convert becomes healed by your recognition of unity and presence.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Close your eyes, revise by assuming, 'I am awake to my inner I AM.' Envision the inner city revived—lights within, open streets, and health returning—and feel the healing as already mine.
