Raising the Inner Standard

Isaiah 59:18-19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 59 in context

Scripture Focus

18According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.
19So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
Isaiah 59:18-19

Biblical Context

The passage says God repays according to deeds and protects against enemies. It also says a standard is raised by the Spirit when danger comes.

Neville's Inner Vision

These lines speak not of distant geography but of your inner state. 'Deeds' and the 'fury' of adversaries are the movements of consciousness you entertain: judgment, resentment, fear, or hope. When the flood of hostile thought arises, the Spirit of the LORD lifts up a standard within your mind—an inner boundary that reframes what you will accept as real. From the west and the rising sun, the name of the LORD comes to be feared and glorified as your awareness aligns with the I AM. The standard is not a future event but a present act of consciousness you choose to embody. If you dwell in the I AM, your inner world repays according to its currents; you become the islands of refuge the mind can trust. Therefore, assume a state in which you are already protected, righteous, and guided, and let that state shape perception, events, and responses. The flood can’t overwhelm what you have decided to be true in your heart.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, breathe, and assume I AM as the standard lifting above every flood of fear. Dwell in the feeling that you are already protected and guided.
