Inner Path Through Humility

Isaiah 50:6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 50 in context

Scripture Focus

6I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
Isaiah 50:6

Biblical Context

The verse presents a figure who bears punishment and public humiliation willingly, refusing to hide from shame.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of this figure as your own inner self under trial. The 'back given to smiters' is the old body of belief; the 'cheeks plucked' are dried old affections clinging to you; to 'hide not my face from shame' is to refuse to hide from the truth of your present state. In Neville's practice, the event is not happening to you, it is your inner state made visible. Your true life is the I AM that witnesses the scene, and the scene answers to the I AM's feeling. If you feel under attack, you are simply being asked to revise the inner posture: choose a new assumption that you are already secure, honored, and untouched by blame. When you feel the sting of others, relax into the awareness that you are the creator; what is 'happening' is the repetition of your inner story. So imagine and feel right now that you are the one who does not hide, who faces life with quiet power, and that the outer world will reflect that inner standing.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, recall Isaiah 50:6, and revise the scene by silently affirming, 'I am the I AM, unmoved by any outward attack.' Feel the power of that inner state now, and imagine the outer events bending to this new consciousness.
