Idols and Inner Captivity

Isaiah 46:2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 46 in context

Scripture Focus

2They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.
Isaiah 46:2

Biblical Context

Idols bow and cannot carry the load; they themselves are carried away into captivity, exposing their emptiness.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this line the idols are not mere statues but states of consciousness that bow under pressure, pretending to bear a burden. When you cling to a form—money, status, or ritual—you hand your liberty to the image and become captive to its power. The I AM, your eternal awareness, cannot take root in such images; it must turn inward and assume the role of burden-bearer within. The burden you sense is a call to revision: you are not ruled by the idol but by your own I AM. By imagining yourself as the one who bears every burden, you revoke the image’s claim and awaken to a new reality where you are fulfilled, safe, and free. Attend to the inner shift, not to external forms; the change in feeling follows as you rest in the simple truth of awareness.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare: I AM the burden-bearer; release the idol back into its nothingness. Then feel the weight dissolve as you dwell in I AM.
