Inner Refuge of God's Presence
Isaiah 4:4-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Isaiah 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Isaiah 4:4-6 portrays purification and protection, where God cleanses and creates a divine shelter—a cloud by day and a flaming fire by night—that defends the righteous.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here, the chapters speak not of distant geography but of your present state. The Lord washing away the filth of Zion and purging Jerusalem with Spirit is God within you purging fearful thoughts and loyalties to lack. By the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning, discernment and cleansing operate within, leaving you clear and undefiled by past conditions. The cloud and the smoke by day and the flaming fire by night are the two faces of awareness: steady protection during day’s heat and luminous guidance through night’s storms. Upon all the glory shall be a defence—your own illumination, your sense of being witnessed by God as I AM. There is a tabernacle—a shelter—within your mind, a covert from rain and storm. This is not something you seek; it is what you enter by agreement, by assuming that you are already under divine shelter, purified, defended, and guided. So bring your imagination to this moment and dwell there; let the 'glory' appear as the light of your awareness, and the shelter you need will already be yours whenever you turn within.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume you are already sheltered by a cloud by day and a fire by night. Feel the purification and protection as your present state, and dwell in that reality until it feels natural.
