Biblical Context
Isaiah 4:4-5 speaks of God cleansing the people’s impurities and guilt by spirit and burning. It then promises a protective presence—cloud by day and fire by night—over Zion.
Neville's Inner Vision
From the Neville lens, the Lord is not a distant judge but the I AM in you cleansing states of consciousness. 'The Lord shall wash away the filth' indicates a subjective washing of beliefs and habits that cling to your awareness. 'Purged by the spirit of judgment, by the spirit of burning' is the inner discrimination and energy that burn away self-distrust, guilt, and the memory of separation. Jerusalem or Zion represents your present consciousness—an inner home not a geographic place. When these purifications occur, the 'glory' becomes a light that encamps around your dwelling—the mind's sensory field. The cloud by day and the flaming fire by night are symbolic forms of the living Presence that surrounds and defends your inner life. This is not external warfare; it is the rearrangement of your inner atmosphere—visibly felt as safety, courage, and clarity. Your awareness, if steadfast, grows into a protecting field that repels fear and negativity. In practice, you dwell in the truth of your I AM and permit the purification to become your defense.
Practice This Now
Assume you are already washed and defended. For a few minutes, imagine a cloud and flaming fire encircling your dwelling, and feel the I AM guarding you.
