Broken Reed, Inner Trust

Isaiah 36:6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 36 in context

Scripture Focus

6Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
Isaiah 36:6

Biblical Context

The verse warns that trusting in Egypt—the broken reed—will fail; leaning on it pierces the hand, and Pharaoh's power proves illusory to those who place faith in him.

Neville's Inner Vision

Pharaoh and Egypt here are not distant rulers but states of mind you lean on when you feel powerless. The broken reed represents external safeguards—policy, status, or fear—that seem to uphold you but pierce you when pressure comes. Your true power lies in the I AM within, the constant awareness that sustains you. Leaning on external power contracts you and makes the very source of support a tool of pain. The cure is to reverse the assumption: affirm that the One Power within is your sole shelter. See the internal resource as a steadfast staff that never breaks, guiding choices and shaping events from the inside out. Observe where you place your trust, and revise it by invoking the I AM as your primary support. When you live from this inner conviction, outward circumstances reflect a deeper sense of steadiness, even as appearances threaten.

Practice This Now

Assume the feeling that you are held by the I AM; silently declare, 'I am supported by the One Power within me.' Then visualize inner light replacing the external reed as you breathe.
