Biblical Context
Isaiah 34:13-15 paints an inner landscape where the mind's palace is overrun with thorns and beasts, a symbol of exile within consciousness. It invites you to see such conditions as states of mind to be healed by a return to the I AM.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider this passage as a map of your own consciousness. The palaces where you supposedly rule are only the positions of awareness you have consented to; when you entertain fear, judgment, or lack, thorns sprout and dragons claim the halls. Owls, satyrs, and vultures are not 'out there' lords but images arising in you, the dreamer, when attention lingers on separation from the I AM. In Neville terms, exile is a belief-state, a mental narrative that keeps you walking with wild beasts rather than in the peace of your true nature. The wild beasts of the desert and the island meeting signify conflicting impulses within you forming a single, restless atmosphere. Yet this is a story you can revise. You are the I AM, and imagination is the instrument by which you reframe reality. By deliberately choosing a state of consciousness—feeling the truth of your divinity, and assuming it as real—you displace the old creatures. The owls nest in the shadow only as long as you permit their rule; when you awaken to your oneness, the entire landscape is transformed into a home of light.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and, in one breath, assume you are the I AM dwelling in a palace cleared of thorns and fear. Feel the space as already orderly and at rest, then observe how the imagined beasts retreat as your awareness holds steady.
