The Inner Lion Guards Zion

Isaiah 31:4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Isaiah 31 in context

Scripture Focus

4For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.
Isaiah 31:4

Biblical Context

God speaks of Himself as a mighty defender who roars over threats and will fight for Mount Zion, unaffected by the noise of enemies.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this line, the LORD proclaims that He will come down to fight for Zion, as a lion roaring over its prey. In Neville’s psychology, Zion is the inner state of consciousness—the I AM that you are. The roaring lion is the felt certainty of that I AM, unshaken by the clamor of shepherds—the external voices, doubts, and conditions that would govern you. You are not to fear their noise nor abase yourself to appease it; rather, you allow the divine defender to stand within as your own awareness. When you claim that the I AM fights for you, you align with the divine act of imagining reality into form. The LORD’s coming down is the inner revelation that your thoughts, not external events, govern your life; Zion is preserved when you refuse to surrender power to fear. Thus the roar becomes your invitation to persist in the truth that you are the I AM, that the inner hill is secure, and that consciousness rightly claimed is the protector of your experience.

Practice This Now

Assume the I AM is defending this inner Zion now; feel the lion’s roar as unwavering certainty, and let fear dissolve as you rest in that awareness.
