Biblical Context
Isaiah 31:2-5 speaks of God acting on behalf of Zion against threats, promising deliverance and protection. It distinguishes relying on human power from relying on the divine presence within.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice that the text does not point to distant thunder in the heavens, but to the quiet movement of your own awareness. The evildoers and their misleading help are not them out there; they are thoughts clinging to a world of lack. The line Egyptians are men, and not God is a reminder that the power you lean on externally is never the real power; the true force is your inner God—the I AM that you are. When the Lord stretches out His hand, the old supports fall away, and you discover that perceived helpers and dependents dissolve in your interior life. The image of the lion coming down to defend Zion is a picture of inward courage, the bold and gentle authority of consciousness defending its own domain. As birds flying, the Lord of hosts defends Jerusalem—your mind—defense and deliverance are already present as your very awareness. The moment you acknowledge that God is your I AM, you acknowledge that nothing outside can threaten what you truly are. Your task is to assume that you are kept by the inner defender; feel the certainty of this protection and let outward alarms fall silent.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and affirm I AM is defending me now. Visualize a radiant shield of awareness encircling you and feel fear melt into faith.
