Inner Purge of the Stay
Isaiah 3:1-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Isaiah 3 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
God withdraws the outward stay of Jerusalem and Judah—the food, water, and leadership—exposing people to hardship. The listed authorities (mighty, judge, prophet, counsellor, etc.) depart, signaling a purge that invites inner discernment and the turn toward a higher order within.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within every life, the 'Lord' is the I AM within, removing the external stay so you may confront your inner condition. The 'stay and staff', the bread and water, are your habitual assurances—your beliefs about security, status, and what you trust to keep you comfortable. When the outer supports are taken away, the roles you most trust—the mighty man, the judge, the prophet, the prudent, the ancient, the captain of fifty, the counsellor, the artificer, the eloquent orator—these are inner images of supposed guidance that you have leaned upon. Their removal is not punishment but a summons to awaken your inner sovereignty, your capacity to imagine and dwell as the one who commands reality. In exile, you experience the separation from the old self; in return, you discover the sovereignty of awareness that remains when externals fail. The verse invites you to recognize that the true stay is the I AM, always present, and that by revising your state of consciousness—feeling the wish fulfilled and living there—you restore inner governance and bring about the manifested change.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the feeling that you are already sustained by the I AM. Imagine the outer stays dissolving while you stand in inner certainty, as if your wish is already real.
